Around 150 veterans, Friends of Coastal Forces, Sea Cadets and Club Members gathered for a Remembrance Sunday Service at the Coastal Forces memorial at Hornet Services Sailing Club on 9 November.
The wreathlayers were led by Rear Admiral Rex Cox CB and the service was conducted by the Revd David Allen, a Hornet member who stepped in at very late notice. The Guard of Honour was provided by TS Hornet Sea Cadet unit and it was splendid to welcome a group of cadets who were training aboard TS Royalist, the Sea Cadets flagship moored nearby. This year, a poignant solo rendition of the traditional words of remembrance was sung by Tim Angel, the organist and singer. The rain held off, there was a fabulous Hornet carvery lunch afterwards and Richard Farrington gave a talk about the history of Haslar Creek, in particular the links to Coastal Forces and sailing.
The HDML Medusa provided a very appropriate backdrop to the whole event.
Lest we forget…
